Garden redesign for high impact, Islington N1

Grass versus plants

A garden design for a client who approached us to remove their lawn, and replace with plants, is always an exciting prospect. Lawns are high maintenance and can struggle with bad drainage or dry shady areas. A garden design that removes and replaces the lawn area with well selected plants increases biodiversity, lowers the need for constant maintenance and is a feast for the eyes

We finished planting this garden in autumn 2025 and are so excited to see how the borders fill out in 2026.

Enlarging skinny borders

Our client was frustrated that the borders in her garden were too narrow for her increasing love of plants, and after we’d been working with her for a few years, replanting and maintaining her garden, she requested a planting design to transform her garden into a lush haven.

The New Design

We came up with a number of rough sketches with alternative layouts for the garden. Our client chose the garden design with a lovely curving brick path running through the planting. The bricks tied in well with her existing hard landscaping and the style of her house.

We then drew up a more detailed garden design with precise measurements for the transformation.

We work closely with our landscapers, and are always present throughout the build.

Our landscapers

We aim to be as sustainable as possible, and the landscapers we use try to recycle any hard landscaping materials they’ve had to remove, either on the project at hand or in future builds as hardcore.

Plant Choices

We are so enthusiastic about the plants we use and selected wonderful plants for this garden from a number of independent, specialist nurseries. We always send detailed ideas for planting designs to our clients so that we can discuss styles, colours and textures in order to draw up a detailed planting plan.

Planting the garden

Working alongside a team of experienced and passionate gardeners, the garden design was brought alive using high quality plants from selected specialist nurseries.
To maintain a healthy and productive environment, we disturb the soil as little as possible when planting to allow the plants to flourish.

It has been so lovely working with you both as you seem to understand exactly what I want in my garden and it is also exactly what you want to do with it too! A rare meeting of minds in my experience!
It looks so beautiful. In fact magical and brings a tear to my eye. Thank you so much for all you have done. It’s going to be so exciting to see it bursting into life the coming months!
